In this ghostly tale, Pennell turns her forensic eye to the history of the Dutch “cultivation system” in Indonesia. “I am a ghost returned to tell the tale from the place where the end began”, says the narrator, a stand-in for the many primates violently extracted from their jungle habitats to be exhibited in museums and fairs in Europe. Whilst previous works engaged with photographic archives, primarily those documenting the legacies of the British imperial project, A person of the Forest points to the interconnectedness of European colonialism, making use of the collections of the EYE film museum in Amsterdam, the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre in Leiden and the Artis Zoological Museum in Amsterdam.

Colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lukyanov, is going on vacation with his wife to a resort town, where his old friend, Major Alekseev, a local police officer, lives. When they meet, the old friends agree to catch up the next day, but Alekseev seems worried about something he needs to finish. That night, Alekseev goes on a mission alone, during which he is hit by a car. When Lukyanov hears about it, he offers his help to the local police as a private individual, feeling it is his duty to find out the circumstances of his friend's death. The colonel will have to determine whether it was a deliberate murder or an accident.

This darkly grotesque drama unfolds on multiple paths. The tangible one, now cruel, now crazy, along which the nomadic actor "Dad Mour", his wife "Mum" and two sons try to return home, but also the imaginary one, even more, tortuous and dusty, on which the often impressive mental youth (or immaturity, a scrooge might say) is welded with life circumstances forcing the protagonist to wise up. An anxious and exuberant cinematic faerie about love, the fear of loneliness and the gaze of sons fixed on their fathers.

Rich Donato is the high school janitor at an Oregon high school. He is looked up to by the kids who often seek his advice. There is only one problem: he doesn't have a high school diploma. The school board tells him that he must get his GED in 30 days or he will lose his job. He tries taking the test on his own, but fails. His wife rallies the community to help Rich pass the test. Now that Rich has help from teachers and students, there is nothing he can't do.
